DEFINITIONS

Backwardation is a theory developed in respect to the price of a futures contract and the contract’s time to expire. Backwardation says that as the contract approaches expiration, the futures contract will trade at a higher price compared to when the contract was further away from expiration.

Contango is a pricing situation in which the prices of futures contracts are higher the further out the maturities are.

INDEX DEFINITIONS

The S&P 500 Index measures the performance of the large cap segment of the U.S. equities market, covering approximately 80% of the U.S. equities market. The Index includes 500 leading companies in leading industries of the U.S. economy. The S&P Index is one of the most widely used benchmarks of U.S. equity performance.

Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Bond Index is an unmanaged index of domestic investment-grade bonds, including corporate, government and mortgage-backed securities.

Bloomberg Commodity Index is a broadly diversified index tracking futures contracts on physical commodities.
